When will it all stop?
Wassup tween squad💓
I am at a loss for words, what is happening in our country? Why are the men who we consider to be our brothers, sons, friends, cousins raping and killing our fellow sisters? This week's topic is a sensitive one:
Rape is a serious issue here in South Africa. Over 40% South African will be raped in their lifetime.Only 1 in 4 cases will be reported. 14% of perpetrators are South Africans.

New word for dictionary:

The story of Uyinene Mrwetyana sends chills up my spine. To read about it here's the link:
How sickening is it that men think it is okay to harass women just because of the way they're dressed. We no longer are free to wear crop tops with mini skirts simply because of men who can't keep their hormones in check. Never mind that, is it even safe for us to walk down the street by ourselves? Is it fair that we have to worry every time our mothers, sisters, aunts, cousins are out of the house. I no longer feel safe in this country, let us be honest with one another, deep down we have a fear of being included in the 40% women that will be raped. What action has the government taken to stop this? NOTHING! How many more women and children must die for them to wake up and smell the coffee?
Ways in which you can protect yourself:
- Clue into your surrounding. Know what is happening around you, especially in public areas.
- Imagine how you'd react.
- Trust your gut!
- It is okay to trust someone, but always leave room for doubt!
- Use force as your last resort
What to do after you or someone you know has been raped:
- First Response
- Contact a friend or family member
- Try and remember
- Dealing with the police
- Rape and abuse assistance
- HIV / AIDS
Your rights at the police station:
- Make your statement in a private room
- Make your statement to a female officer (if there is one)
- Make your statement in your own language
- Have a friend or family member with you for support
