Whomst are you?
Wassup tween squad.
You know what it is.
This week we're talking about self-esteem.
This is a skill that must be obtained before you go to high school, because in high school your character will be challenged from time to time.
There is a misconception that there is no difference between self confidence and self esteem, but there actually is a difference. Let's see,
New words in the dictionary:
Self confidence (n.):
A feeling of trust in one's qualities and judgement.
Self esteem (n.):
Confidence in one's own worth or abilities; self respect
Story time:
Just two weeks, I saw videos of myself that I didn't even know existed😂. Whilst I was watching them, I was so shocked and sad at the same time. I don't know what happened to the Hloni that was not scared to do almost anything. I really do miss her, she did not care about what anyone had to say about her. But everything took a 180 degree turn once I entered 13, my self esteem had taken a hard knock, I felt very ugly. Sometimes I wish that I could turn back the hands of time, and go back to when I couldn't give two cents about people's opinions. One of the questions that people frequently ask me is "why do you have an Instagram account if you do not post anything?". Often times my answer is that "I'm not ready". Over the past 3 years, my fear is that people are going to make fun of my head shape or my body structure. The problem with today's society is that we compare ourselves with other people, and we change who we are in order to be accepted into a certain group. You wanna know what's funny, no matter how hard you try, you will NEVER be that person. I've slowly learnt to accept that God made us this way, and it's up to us whether we embrace it or not. So fellow tweens, that kiss-kiss, big forehead, your thick thighs, or your skinny legs, your height, and your body shape, embrace it. I mean who will do it if you don't❤
I've come to realize that it's the people who make fun of others, that have deep issues. Instead of not paying them any mind, just ask them whether they're okay, who knows you might just be the answer to their problems.
Because this week's topic is self esteem, I am going to end this post with a letter to the future version of myself.
Dear Hlohlo,
What it do baaabbyy 😂 remember how much you loved using this phrase ten years ago. Right now you have a job that you love with all your being, you live in a townhouse, it's not your dream place but for now it shall do. I am proud of you baby girl, you jumped over so many hurdles, remember how they used to tell you that you got one big forehead, and how you used to get touched. But remember on the 15th of August 2019, were you took the concious decision of no longer caring about what anyone had to say about you. Baby girl you were, you are and will be( I really hope) beautiful, smart and any guy that's going to get you one day is very lucky.
